NEW YORK (Armenpress/Noyan Tapan)–Continuing his visit to New York–Mountainous Karabagh Republic (MKR) president Arkady Ghoukassian met with leaders–benefactors and representatives of the Armenian community. The president is in the US preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving day telethon to benefit the construction of the North-South Highway of Karabagh.
Late Wednesday–Ghoukassian met with Armenian-American benefactor Kevork Pagumian who has contributed substantial funds toward the construction of a hospital complex in Stepanakert. The president expressed his gratitude and thanked Pagumian for his contribution to Artsakh’s progress. Ghoukassian spoke of Artsakh’s economic development–noting sustainable investment growth resulting in the creation of new jobs. Pagumian–in turn–expressed readiness to contribute further toward Artsakh’s development.
That same day–Ghoukassian visited Ground Zero–the site of the September 11th terrorist attacks–and placed a wreath in the memory of the innocent victims who perished there. After the ceremony–a liturgy was conducted by the head of the Eastern Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church Archbishop Barsamian.
President Ghoukassian–along with Haiastan Pan-Armenian Fund representatives–later attended a reception at the building of Armenia’s Permanent Representation to the United Nations.
There–Ghoukassian spoke of Karabagh’s political and economic situation–and stressed the necessity of the North-South Highway for the socio-economic development of the country.
Those attending expressed their interest in the project as well as readiness to contribute to its success.
At the reception–Ghoukassian awarded New York philanthropist Hratch Kaprielian the medal of Gratitude "Yerakhtakidutyun" for his notable contribution to the economic development of Karabagh.
