YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President Robert Kocharian met January 28 with Director General of the UN Office in Geneva Vladimir Petrovsky within the framework of his visit to Switzerland–where he attended the World Economic Forum in Davos. The two discussed issues pertaining to the growth of international organizations’ activities in Armenia. After the meeting Petrovsky organized a solemn reception to honor Kocharian–which was attended by representatives of international organizations and heads of UN infrastructures.
The same day the Armenian delegation led by Kocharian visited the Church of St. Jacob (Surb Hakop) in Geneva and then the Armenian Center of the Armenian community in Geneva–where Kocharian opened the Center’s library.
On January 29 in Davos Robert Kocharian met with president of the large Swiss company ABB Gorban Lindal. The two signed a deal on cooperation in the energy sector.
During the private meeting with the president of Poland Alexander Kwasnewsky the two conferred about a number of issues of mutual interest.
Robert Kocharian also had a meeting with prime minister of Russia Yevgeny Primakov. During the meeting the sides discussed issues–concerning the development of Armenia-Russia relations–settlement of the Karabakh conflict–financial crisis in Russia and structural reforms within CIS. Primakov noted that Armenia-Russia relations were developing normally and emphasized Russia’s interest in establishing stability in the region.
On January 30 Armenia’s president met with the president of Swiss company "Andre," Reimond Cretien. The two agreed about concrete projects and investment in the food processing industry in Armenia.
Kocharian also had a meeting with the chairman of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development–Forest Coller. The two discussed issues related to the implementation of regional programs by EBRD and promotion of the private sector in Armenia.
