YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Although diplomatic relations between Armenia and Germany were established more than a decade ago–Armenian president Robert Kocharian will conduct his first official visit to Germany on January 14. The President and his delegation will travel to Berlin and Cologne.
Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian–Trade And Economic Development Minister Karen Chshmaritian–Finance Minister Vartan Khachatrian–other officials and reporters will accompany the President during the two day visit.
In Berlin president Kocharian will meet with President Johannes Rau–Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder and Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer–as well as with leading German businessmen.
Armenian ambassador to Germany Karine Ghazinian stated that the main objective of Kocharian’s visit is to foster economic ties–encourage new German investmen’s and investigate creation of joint ventures.
In Cologne–the President is expected to meet with members of local Armenian community–and attend a special concert by Armenian musicians at the Cologne Opera Theater.
After Germany–at invitation of his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin–president Kocharian will travel to Russia January 16-18.
The sides will discuss key issues of Russian-Armenian cooperation–collaboration of the two countries in the international arena–including within the framework of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the Collective Security Treaty Organization.
