YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Armenian President Robert Kocharian met Thursday with Director of the WHO Europe-based Office Joe Eric Asval–who arrived in Armenia to participate in the national scientific conference on the development of the public health policy. The conference–which is to open on May 7–will discuss the strategic public health programs.
Asval briefed the president on the basic provisions of the new concept of the organization.
President Kocharian highly appreciated WHO’s assistance to the public health system of Armenia and the established cooperation. The president said that the public health sector has serious problems. Not all measures taken during the last few years and aimed at making the sector more efficient were right. Pointing out that the Health Ministry is currently developing new methods of reorganizing the system–Kocharian considered advisable to adopt the world experience. Asval said that the World Health Organization will pay serious attention to Armenia for the purpose of translating the national program into reality.
