YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–All defendants in the October 27 parliamentary killings case will be court on August 22 when new petitions are expected to be presented by Moscow based lawyer Oleg Yunoshev–who represents Vazgen Sargsian’s family. The petitions will then be considered by the court. Yunoshev said during the August 20 court hearing that Nadezhda Taraplina–a psychologist from Moscow–had already drawn conclusions about the mental state of Nairi Hunanian–the leader of the attack on parliament and the principal defendant in the case. Judge Samvel Uzunian reiterated his previous comment that a specialist is not an expert–and what he presents to the court is nothing more than his opinion.
Yunoshev said he was going submit a petition in the presence of all defendants as evidence proving Nairi Hunanian’s links with the National Security Ministry were fabricated.
On August 20–Nairi Hunanian was interrogated by lawyer Eduard Aghajanian–who represents the legal successors of Yuri Bakhshian (the slain vice-speaker) and Leonid Petrossian (the slain minister). Hunanian reiterated that he had not intended to kill Yuri Bakhshian and did not make any "check shots" on him when he noticed a motion behind the table of the Presidium. Moreover–he had intended to include Bakhshian in his government.
Hunanian again claimed that he had risen up "against the tyranny of Vazgen Sargsian". He said that in August of 2000 he sent an inquiry to Parliament Speaker Armen Khachatrian to learn when the deputies of the National Assembly had last received their salaries before October 27–1999 and in what currency–and US dollars were found in the pockets of the slain officials–including parliament members. Hunanian is waiting for a reply to his inquire in order to start "leveling charges".
Minister Leonid Petrossian–in Hunanian’s opinion–was a corrupted–"a part of the government that was destroying the Armenian people." According to the files–the minister who sat behind Vazgen Sargsian–died of random shots fired by Karen Hunanian.
