GLENDALE–Glendale City Council Candidate Rafi Manoukian on Monday received a coveted endorsement for the April 6 City Council elections by the Daily News s–which for the first time has endorsed candidates in Glendale municipal elections.
In an editorial entitled "Two For Glendale," the Daily News cited Manoukian’s support for buying the Oakmont V property in an effort to preserve that open space–as well as his commitment to ensure low electricity rates by the city–in the wake of the electric industry deregulation.
"I am extremely pleased that a large metropolitan newspaper has endorsed my candidacy and I would like to thank the editorial board for its consideration," said Manoukian–who added that "my approach to city issues benefit all Glendale residents and I hope that on April 6 voters will make the right choice."
"The Daily News endorses… Rafi Manoukian–an accountant and board member of the Glendale Chamber of commerce," the editorial asserted–adding that Manoukian was one of the candidates "best suited to represent the city. The Daily News added that Manoukian supported "attempts to buy the Oakmont V property and preserve it as open space," citing that Manoukian "also would oppose levying a citywide business tax to raise revenue."
In discussing the electric industry deregulation–a crucial issue facing the city–the Daily News pointed out that Manoukian was aware "that it is imperative to keep rates low so as not to lose residential and business customers." The newspaper continued by saying that Manoukian agreed that "it would benefit the city to improve the aging plant and sell the power outside the city’s limits."
In addition to his membership in the Glendale Chamber of Commerce Board–Manoukian has also been active in other civic organizations and commissions. He was instrumental in the passage of Measure K–the school improvement bond initiative which guaranteed the city much-needed funds to enhance city schools. Manoukian has been urging the people of Glendale to get out the vote on April 6.
Just last week–Manoukian also garnered the endorsement of the Glendale chapter of the Armenian National Committee–which he chaired for two years.
