YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The International Committee of the Red Cross opened medical centers in the villages of Donanlar–Khtsaberd and Hin Taghlar of the Hadrut region of Nagorno Karabakh on Thursday. The centers were damaged during the war but restored within the framework of the Elementary Medical Aid Program of the ICRC with the assistance of the American Red Cross. A total of 66 medical centers in three regions were included in the program. These centers can serve up to 58,000 patients.
According to an ICRC report–since the beginning of the implementation process of the program in 1998–the Committee reconstructed 43 medical centers in the Martuni and Martakert regions. Repairs of another 20 medical centers in the Hadrut region are expected to be finished this spring.
The goal of the program is to lower the sickness rate among the population–and to improve the infrastructure of the healthcare system. An information system to ensure a precise statistical analysis of the situation in the field of public health in Karabakh.
