YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Residents of the Shahumian region of Nagorno-Karabakh marched Thursday in protest at the embassies of Russia–France and the United States in Yerevan.
A member of the initiative group on protection of the rights of displaced persons–Kim Kaghramanian said that the action aims at attracting attention of the OSCE Minsk group co-chairmen to the problem of the persons displaced from tens of villages of northern Karabakh. "We are aware that the co-chairmen have tabled new proposals–but we do not know whether these proposals include provisions related to the resolution of our problem," Kagramanian said.
A statement issued by the initiative group and distributed to the aforementioned embassies reads–"This is the first political step made by us and it will be followed by other similar actions."
Officials of the Russian and US embassies invited members of the initiative group for talks on Friday.
Employees of the French embassy said that there would be no response. Shahumian region–which formerly was a part of Azerbaijan–joined Nagorno-Karabakh following a 1991 referendum.
