YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–During the transition period for refugees in Armenia–they appeared in extreme conditions compared to local residents–Mekhak Gabrielian–head of the department for refugees and migration at the social security ministry of Armenia–said at a news conference Wednesday.
According to him–all refugees receive pensions–are involved in the "Paros" program–as well as special programs to provide them with jobs and living space.
According to Mekhak Gabrielian–the refugees are in extreme need of humanitarian aid of any kind.
The Social Security Ministry is trying to control all issues connected with refugees–including those which are solved through programs introduced by the public sector.
According to Gabrielian–among the principal problems is to place refugees–and to solve that problem needs some $200 million.
He noted that today the placement of refugees goes on a single list compiled by regional social services and approved by the Social Security Ministry.
Great work has been done to prepare a governmental decision on registration of refugees caused by the invalidation of the old Soviet passports.
