GLENDALE–Over 1200 people packed Glendale High School’s Auditorium last Sunday for a memorable concert by noted French-Armenian singer Rosy Armen. Her long-awaited performance did not disappoint both older and newer fans.
Rosy Armen’s exclusive performance in Los Angeles was presented by Horizon Armenian Television–and sponsored by the Armenian Cultural Foundation (ACF). Her professionally-trained voice captivated the audience as she sang popular French–Armenian–Spanish–and Italian songs throughout the evening. Her repertoire included classic Armenian romance songs such as Ghazarian’s "Oureen," Melikian’s "Yes Blboul Em," and "Vyri Dzagheeg." Other Armenian favorites sung by Armen like "Oror" (lyrics by Avedis Aharonian)–"Mayrig," and "Hey Jan Loosin" were visibly appreciated by the Armenian audience.
The 20-piece jazz ensemble conducted by Mikael Avedisian was the perfect accompaniment to Armen’s voice. The singer’s appreciation was apparent when she handed one of her flower bouquets to Avedisian at the end of the night.
The successful concert will be remembered for many more years to come. Fans of Rosy Armen–who waited nearly two decades to see her sing again–would be greatly disappointed if no encore performances take place in the near future.
