YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–A group of deputies of the Russian State Duma arrived Tuesday in Armenia on an official visit for the purpose of getting familiarized with the situation of the border troops.
Yuri Voronin–Alexey Zakharov–Oleg Morozov–Lubov Oleynik and other deputies inspected the management of Russian border troops in Armenia–as well as certain border detachmen’s of special groups and border patrols.
Russian parliamentarians were accompanied by a group of journalists from. Russia.
"Our visit is connected with our parliamentary activity. You must serve without any financial problems–and our duty is to care about it"–deputy Tatyana Astrakhanskaya said at the meeting with the personnel of the detachment.
Deputies noted that in Armenia border guards live in better social-economic conditions as compared to other Caucasian regions.
According to them–Russian soldiers serving in Armenia do not feel any discomfort be it social or psychological. Chief of the Artashat border detachment–Colonel Igor Nikitin said: "I serve in Armenia with great pleasure. If in 1991-92 Russian officers were striving to leave Armenia–now it is just the opposite and many officers wish to serve here."
Nikitin reported that the commissioned personnel is provided with housing–regular salaries–they have a school–kindergarten and other utilities.
"Our common border is being defended by Armenian and Russian border troops jointly–and we are glad that the border does not divide Armenia and Russia–but unites them"–deputy Nikolay Korsakov said.
