YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Armenian Energy Minister Karen Galustian–speaking on Thursday to reporters about the outcome of his recent visit to Moscow to negotiate on gas and energy fuel deliveries to Armenia–said Russia has agreed to continue deliveries of both gas and nuclear fuel.
Galustian said that the Armenian government has agreed to pay its debt to Russia’s Gasprom in the first half of the year. "We have drafted a time-table for repayment of our $9.2 million debt to Gasprom," Galustian said.
The minister said that after his negotiations with Russian Atomic Minister Adamov–the latter agreed to resume deliveries of fuel for Armenia’s nuclear power plant. Galustian said that despite $16 million in outstanding debt for previous nuclear fuel supplies–the Russian government has agreed to extend a new $11 million loan to Yerevan for further uranium purchases. The release of the funds is contingent on the State Duma’s approval of a restructuring of Armenia’s overall debt to Russia which is currently at $118 million.
