YEREVAN (Yerkir)–Russia may be the next country where public denial of certain historical facts is deemed a crime. The initiator of the legislation, Speaker of the Russian Duma Boris Gryzlov said the measure will be applied to those who justify the crimes perpetrated by the Nazi’s during the Great Patriotic War.
The Armenian Genocide in the Ottoman Empire should be included in the list of crimes, said Andrey Svetenko, a commentator for Mayak Radio. “Passage of the Armenian Genocide bill by the French parliament can serve as an example. The point is that Turks deny the fact of genocide.
The Turkish case is a clear case in which historical facts are denied and it should not be tolerated, said Svetenko. “The Turks insist it was not an ethnic massacre but a liquidation of parasites; no matter that the number of these “parasites” exceeded a million, including women, children and helpless old people.”
“Gryzlov’s proposal is the right step. Facts are stubborn. We should not tolerate it when black is not named black,” he said.
