BAKU (ArmRadio)-Russian President Dmitry Medvedev will be visiting Azerbaijan on July 3 and Official Baku is speculating that the Russian leader’s first official visit to the Caspian country will usher in the development of closer relations between the two countries.
The two-day visit is occurring at the invitation of the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev.
Novruz Mammadov, head of Aliyev’s International Relations Department, said his country only wants one thing from Russia-its support in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict in favor of Baku.
"We believe that if Russia expresses its will on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, it would be fair and right, he said. "Russia’s position on the settlement of this conflict is of great significance because If Russia takes on a more fair and concrete position in this regard, the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict will be solved soon."
"One of the fundamental directions of Azerbaijan’s foreign policy is to establish close corporation with the neighboring countries," Mammadov said. "Azerbaijan attaches great importance to its relations with Russia."
