The following are results of a July 2 survey conducted by Segotnya newspaper regarding Russia’s’ view of the unification of Russia and Belarus.
In general 81 percent of those surveyed viewed the unification favorably.
They wished–however–Russia unify with the Ukraine and Kazakhstan first. In response to a query as to which country they would like to see unify with Russia-Belarus–64 percent said the Ukraine–40 percent said Kazakhstan.
Unification with other former Soviet republics did not interest them as much. Fourteen percent wished for unification with Moldavia–eight percent with Georgia–five percent with Latvia–four percent with Armenia and Tajikistan–three percent with Estonia and Kirgizistan–and two percent with Azerbaijan.
