YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Having considered organizational and structural questions–the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Executive Council of Armenia named Armen Rustamian as chairman of the Executive Council.
Rustamian replaces Hrant Markarian who–last week–was named the chairman of the ARF Bureau at the ARF’s 28th World Congress which concluded in Armenia.
Markarian was recently interviewed by the ARF organ–Droshak–where he expressed views on some of the major issues.
According to Markarian–a broad range of issues was discussed at the meeting–including the Karabakh problem–the Armenian Cause–Armenia’s internal and external political–economic and partnership issues–and those pertaining to the Diaspora.
Regarding the Karabakh problem here is a quotation from the statement adopted at the meeting:
"Karabakh is a true Armenian national region and as an independent republic it is to protect the national and human rights of its population with its separate authorities and state bodies. An unfavorable settlement of the Karabakh problem will threaten Armenia’s independence–as well as the ideal of a united Armenia.
"The establishment of ties with Turkey should be conditioned by the official recognition of the Armenian Genocide as a historical fact–as well as Turkey’s neutral stance on Karabakh issue."
The fact that ARF Bureau–comprised of members from different countries–has elected Yerevan for its office is a natural result of the World Congress held in Armenia–opined Markarian.
