"THE VICTORY OF THE PRO-ISLAMIC FORCES IN ELECTIONS REVEALED THE TRUE SYSTEM OF VALUES IN TURKEY WHICH IS BASED ON A TRADITIONALLY AGGRESSIVE IDEOLOGY."
YEREVAN (Arminfo)–"Turkey’s policy on Armenia will not seriously change following the victory of pro-Islamic forces in the country," said Armen Rustamyan–the deputy chairman of the National Assembly’s standing commission on foreign relations–and a member of the Supreme Body of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF).
He said that the official policy of Ankara on Armenia has never been particularly friendly–with Turkey’s former authorities attempting to veil their negative attitude towards Armenia with their efforts to establish bilateral relations and organize meetings between the foreign ministers of the two countries.
He stressed–however–that Ankara’s true goal was to divert the attention of the international community from the issue of recognizing the genocide of the Armenia’s in Ottoman Turkey in 1915-1922 and strengthen Ankara’s influence in the South Caucasus region.
Rustamyan said that in this context–the current Turkish authorities are continuing the policy of their predecessors.
The MP also said that following the victory of pro-Islamic forces in parliamentary elections– Turkey’s authority will drop considerably in the world. "The victory of the pro-Islamic forces in elections revealed the true system of values in Turkey which is based on a traditionally aggressive ideology."
He added that Turkey would make every effort–however–to conceal this in order not to damage Ankara’s relations with the international community and make use of the "fruits" of the integration processes.
He stressed that future relations between Ankara and the international community would depend on how well Turkey managed to combine traditional Islamic ideology with its commitmen’s to various international organizations.
