STEPANAKERT (Combined Sources)–Nagorno Karabakh Republic President Bako Sahakyan Thursday convened a working government session to review the activities of the Karabakh Republic’s Foreign Ministry in 2008 and chart a foreign policy course for the coming year.
In attendance were Foreign Minister Georgy Petrosyan, the permanent representatives of the republic overseas and the head of the International Cooperation Center assigned to the foreign ministry.
Sahakyan broached issues that he said should become the basis for future activities of the foreign ministry, noting the need to further strengthen ties between the ministry’s central apparatus and its representative offices abroad. He said the goal of the ministry in 2009 should be to reorganize the work of its missions, to deepen cooperation with local Armenian communities and with political leadership of host nations.
The Karabakh President also spoke about the fundamentals of the republic’s foreign policy, which include a commitment to the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabagh conflict and the restoration of Stepanakert as a full-fledged party to the peace talks.
Sahakian also stressed that the independence and security of Karabakh cannot be questioned.
