OTTAWA–Canada’s Foreign Affairs Minister Lloyd Axworthy yesterday announced several diplomatic appointmen’s–including the appointment of Haig Sarafian as Ambassador to the Lebanese Republic.
Haig Sarafian (BA–H.E.C./Universit de Montral–1973) joined the Trade Commissioner Service in 1974 and has served in missions abroad for most of his career–with postings in Lima–Baghdad–Sao Paulo–Tunis–Damascus (in both the trade and political streams) and–most recently–in Paris where he served as Counselor (Investment) from 1993 to 1997. At headquarters–his assignmen’s have included the Middle East Trade Development Division. From 1990 to 1993–Sarafian was Director General of the International Trade Center in Montreal. He is married to Joan Sarafian and they have two daughters. Sarafian succeeds Daniel Marchand.
