YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–All accusations that employees of the Interior and National Security Ministry support only one election campaign are groundless–said Interior and National Security Minister Serge Sargssian–Monday.
The minister–however–did not rule out that some police officers might be involved in propaganda activities in support of the current authorities out of fear of losing their jobs. Sargssian said that was their inalienable right unless they do it through forceful means.
Assessing the current political situation in Armenia–Sargssian described as extortion allegations that a run-off election will testify to vote-rigging and dictatorship in Armenia. Law enforcement agencies–he said–will maintain public order on election day–as well as secure the delivery of ballot-boxes to their destinations. He stressed that police will be deployed only outside of polling stations unless members of electoral committees ask them to step in.
