YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The Shahumian region of Karabakh consists of only four villages (Aknabert–Charektar–Dadivank–Tonashen) which practically rose from the ashes. The head of the regional administration–Robert Aidinian said that the restoration is going on well–and residents have been provided with homes. The land was privatized in the region; grain-crops were sown on 100 hectares and potatoes were planted on an area of 45 hectares. The regional administration allocates credits to all who wish; 30 applications for receiving the credits were received.
The region is provided with all modern facilities including electric power and telephone communication. Satellite communication was also established recently–which will allow the residents to watch Armenian National TV programs.
A medical station is operating in Aknabert. The hospital was restored–but is not operating as there are no specialists and equipment. There are also certain problems in the educational sphere. There is no school in the village of Tonashen. A secondary school is expected to be opened in Dadivank.
Aidinian said that on the whole the region is successfully solving its problems and does not fall behind the others.
