TBILISI(Armenpress)–The President of Georgia Eduard Shevardnadze has made an announcement on State Radio Monday–on the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict as well as his upcoming official visit to Armenia.
According to Shevardnadze–"As a friendly neighbor–Armenia has an immense potential in contributing to regional cooperation as well as the peaceful resolution of the Abkhazian conflict. Shevardnadze said that the Abkhazian conflict resolution–the Georgian-Abkhazian direct dialogue as well as the definition of Abkhazia’s status within the Georgian State–did not have an alternative. He expressed hope that the recent events–which took place in Abkhazia–will not affect the developmen’s of a peaceful resolution.
In regards with his Armenian visit–the President stated that it will discuss regional cooperation issues as well as bilateral relation developmen’s.
President Shevardnadze will come to Armenia on a two-day official visit on Tuesday at the invitation of Armenia’s President Robert Kocharian.
According to Robert Kocharian’s press office–the Georgian delegation will include the country’s ministers of foreign affairs–energy and fuel–transport and communications–finance–economy–industry and trade–justice–agriculture and food–state revenues–members of parliament–leaders of the Samtskhe-Javakhk–Akhalkalaki–Ninotsminda regions–other officials. A group of businessmen and journalists will also arrive in Armenia to accompany the delegation.
After an official ceremony at the airport–the two leaders will participate in diplomatic talks and in the afternoon–the leaders will continue their talks at Kocharian’s residence followed by negotiations involving the two delegations. A number of bilateral documen’s are expected to be signed during these negotiations. A joint press conference of the two presidents will also be held.
Tuesday evening–a dinner in honor of Eduard Shevardnadze will be given on behalf of President Kocharian.
Wednesday morning–the Georgian delegation will visit the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial to 1915 Genocide Victims where the Georgian president will lay a wreath at the monument and take part in tree planting ceremony.
Then–the Georgian president will visit the Armenian parliament where he will meet with the parliament speaker–his deputies–leaders of standing commissions–leaders of factions and groups.
In the course of the second day of his visit–Shevardnadze will meet with teachers and students at Yerevan State University.
Within the framework of the visit–the delegation led by the Georgian president is also scheduled to visit the National Picture Gallery and take part in the opening of an exhibition of Georgian painters.
The same day the Georgian delegation will leave Armenia.
