YEREVAN (Itar-Tass)–Armenians former interior minister Vano Siradeghian has been placed on the wanted list–Prosecutor General Aghvan Hovsepain announced Wednesday.
Hovsepian said further action by the Prosecutor’s Office will depend on the outcome of the search for the former minister–stressing that Siradeghian was placed on the wanted list on February 18–the day after the National Assembly agreed to lift his parliamentary immunity and consented to instituting criminal proceeding against him.
According to preliminary investigation–Siradeghian–52–was involved in masterminding the murders of his opponents. The former minister may face imprisonment of 8 to 15 years or the death penalty.
On January 29–Siradeghian left the republic for the United Arab Emirates–Armenia’s national television reported. A staff member at the headquarters of the Armenian National Movement–which Siradeghian is heads–cited illness as the reason for Siradeghian’s departure.
In a letter published in Armenia–the former minister reaffirmed his willingness to return to Armenia and stand trial.
According to some Armenian newspapers–Siradeghian is to return within the first ten days of March. An exact date for his return allegedly will depend on his medical condition.
