YEREVAN (Yerkir)–The Sixth Homenetmen International Jamboree–on Monday–held its official opening ceremonies in Armenia. The Jamboree–attended by 720 Homenetmen members from 18 regions–is being held in Hraztan’s Aghavnadzor village.
Among those present at the opening ceremonies were Armenia’s Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Issues Aram Manoukian; Archbishop Mesrob Ashjian; members of the Homenetmen Central Executive; members of the Central Executive of Armenia’s National Scout Associations; and other guests.
A flag ceremony followed the opening remarks of Jamboree Director Avo Berberian.
Speeches were then delivered by Homenetmen Central Executive member Garo Teuteundjian; Jamboree Scout Leader Manoug Keoshkerian; ANSA Central Executive chairperson Haroutiun Haroutiunian; Deputy Minister Aram Manoukian; and Archbishop Ashjian–all of whom praised the Jamboree and its motto "With the Homeland–For the Homeland."
The Jamboree will end on July 21. On July 20–the scouts will parade through Yerevan toward the Aram Khachatourian Hall–where under the auspices and with the attendance of President Robert Kocharian–the Jamboree participants will celebrate Homenetmen’s 80th anniversary.
Jamboree participants include Homenetmen members from Armenia–the United States–Argentina–Uruguay–Kuwait–Jordan–Canada–Australia–France–Italy–England–Greece–Bulgaria–Lebanon–and Syria–as well as–members of Iran’s Ararat Armenian Cultural organization and the Sipan Union.
