STEPANAKERT (Armenpress/Hayastan All-Armenia Fund website)–President Robert Kocharian–Defense Minister Serge Sarkisian–Hayastan All-Armenia Fund’s Executive Director Vahan Ter-Ghevondian–all traveled to Nagorno Karabagh last Sunday to attend the opening of another section of the strategic North-South highway. The 9.7 km long section between Dashbulagh and Balucha villages connects Stepanakert with the 20 kilometer long Dashbulagh-Kichan road built last year. The length of the highway running from Stepanakert to north is already thirty kilometers long. A ten kilometer long road stretches south. In the two years since the construction of the highway began–some forty of the overall 170 kilometer long highway have been constructed. Nagorno Karabakh President Arkady Ghoukassian will travel to California November 22-30 to participate in the Hayastan All-Armenia Fund’s telethon to benefit the construction of the highway. When complete–the North-South highway will provide a global network of communication between the regions of Nagorno-Karabagh and–with its uninterrupted link–ensure greater political–economic and defense security. It will pass through more than 20 settlemen’s. The total construction price of the highway is estimated as $25,274,000. The construction of 1 km of the road will cost approximately $150,000. One meter of the road will cost $150.
