WASHINGTON–Armenian National Committee of South Bay Chairman Christopher Yemenidjian and ANCA Legislative Affairs Director Raffi Karakashian met with Rep. Maxine Waters (D-CA-35th Dist), to thank the Representative for cosponsoring the Armenian Genocide Resolution (H. Res. 106) and to explore ways to strengthen further ties with the local Armenian American community.
"We hope to build an even better relationship with the office of Maxine Waters, as we work together to ensure passage of the Armenian Genocide Resolution," commented ANC-SB Chairman Christopher Yemenidjian. "As a grassroots organization, our ability to create change rests on the long lasting relationships that we’ve established with our elected officials."
Meeting in Rep. Waters’ Washington, DC office, Yemenidjian provided an update on the status of the Armenian Genocide Resolution, thanking the Congresswoman for her support. They then went on to discuss ways to work together to secure additional cosponsors for this vital human rights legislation. Waters and Yemenidjian also discussed the activities of the growing and increasingly vocal South Bay Armenian community.
First elected to Congress in 1990, Rep. Waters has been a perennial supporter of Armenian Genocide legislation and is outspoken in efforts to end the ongoing genocide in Darfur. She has consistently cosponsored Armenian Genocide legislation and urged the President to speak honestly about this crime against humanity.
