YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–Ambassador of the European Union to Armenia Dennis Corboy met with Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly Karen Demirchian Wednesday. Corboy said that the Partnership and Cooperation Agreement between Armenia and the European Union "raises Armenia-European Union relations onto a new level."
During the meeting Demirchian stressed the importance of Armenia-European Union relations and expressed confidence for the expansion of cooperation. He also noted that to integrate into European structures Armenia must bring its political structure up to European standards.
Demirchian called for equal participation of all regional countries in the development and implementation of regional programs.
Ambassador Corboy reported that under the Agreement between Armenia and the European Union the establishment of new institutions and a center to deal with political problems is planned. The ambassador said that a committee for relations with Armenia will be set up in the newly elected European Parliament. The committee will be in close cooperation with Armenian parliamentarians.
