GLENDALE–The St. Gregory Armenian Catholic Church of Glendale was consecrated on Sunday–March 18–2001. Presiding over the ceremony was Most Reverend Manuel Batakian–Apostolic Exarch for the Armenian Catholics in the US and Canada. Armenian Catholic Church leaders from Beirut–Buenos Aires–Boston–and Canada traveled to Los Angeles for the official ceremony.
Also present were both prelates of the dioceses of the Armenian Apostolic Church of North America–Prelate Bishop Mousegh Mardirosian and Prelate Archbishop Vatche Hovsepian. Prelate Mardirosian was accompanied by Archbishop Zareh Aznavorian from Antelias. Archbishop Renato Martino was the Papal representative. The ceremony was also attended by Lebanese consul Dr. Joe Maacaron–Glendale City Mayor–and members of Glendale City Hall. The architects of the St. Gregory Church–Aram Alachachian and Sarkis Markouzi were also present.
After leading the consecration ceremony–Most Reverand Batakian spoke of the mission of the Armenian Catholic Church and conveyed the wishes of Patriarch Nerses Bedros XIX. He thanked all those who contributed to the consecration of the church–especially the efforts of Father Raphael Minasian.
