YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–The State Chamber Orchestra of Armenia will stage free open-air concerts in Yerevan during the 1999-2000 concert season and visit provinces with charity concerts–the Orchestra’s Artistic Director and Chief Conductor Aram Karabekian told a press conference on September 16.
Karabekian said that the opening of the season will take place on September 22 with the performances of music by Bach–Hayrapetian–Britten and Martinu. On October 2-3–with the assistance of the Russian Embassy–the Orchestra will hold a concert of music by Russian composers on the occasion of the 200th birthday anniversary of the great Russian poet Alexander Pushkin. A concert of music by French composers will be organized in early December jointly with the French Embassy. The Orchestra Director said that on April 4–the day of the jubilee of the Chamber Orchestra–new compositions will be presented to listeners.
On October 19-27–the Chamber Orchestra will go on tour to the United States–and in May the orchestra will tour the United Arab Emirates and Moscow. Tours to South America and Australia are also planned. On November 3-7–the Orchestra will give two charity concerts in Tbilisi to be arranged in cooperation with the Composers’ Union of Georgia.
Karabekian said that at the suggestion of Chicago University–musicians of the Theological Department will arrive in Armenia for two weeks to draw up a joint program with the musicians of the Yerevan Chamber Orchestra to perform in Armenia and the US.
