YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–All the necessary preconditions such as rich history–culture and Christian traditions are available in Armenia for the development of tourism–Director of the International Tourism Development Center of Ireland–Project Manager Michael McNalty said at the ceremonial launching of the program for tourist workers organized under the Bistro project of TACIS. Pointing out that the program is aimed at raising the professional level of tourist workers and developing the cooperation between government bodies and private sector–McNalty stated that the Armenian government has much to do for the development of tourism. He also said that the need for state planning and replenishment of circulating assets of the structures having contacts with the sphere.
Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade Ara Petrossian said that "today goods for tourist in Armenia are of low quality and noncompetitive." Pointing out the importance of retraining specialists–he stressed that it will be enough to increase the number of tourists visiting Armenia. "New infrastructure and large-scale advertising campaigns are also necessary to present Armenia’s potential for tourism development in other countries," Petrossian said.
