YEREVAN (Armenpress)–Every student studying at Yerevan State University who are from Javakhk–a predominately Armenian-populated area in the southern Georgia will be given 5,000 drams–approximately $10–a month to ease their financial needs while attending school. The decision was taken by Gurgen Melikian–the dean of the Eastern Studies Department–who has set up the Gurgen Melikian fund.
The move followed after a similar initiative made by Tomas Zakarian to fund Armenian students from Egypt. The Gurgen Melikian fund will also be providing financial assistance to Javakhk families that have 5 or more children.
