YEREVAN (BBC)–Armenian doctors announced Saturday that Nikolay Kolesnikov’s blood no longer contains the immune deficiency virus–as a result of treatment involving a new drug–the Armenicum–reported the Moscow-based Ekho Moskvy radio program.
The 22-year-old from Kaliningrad was hospitalized in a grave condition in a Yerevan clinic for socially-transmitted diseases several years ago.
The doctor in charge does not now fear for his patient’s state. Levon Mkhitarian–Armenia’s chief medical officer and specialist in infectious diseases–cautions that the virus may be preserved in the body tissue and make itself felt in a year or 10 years.
