TUJUNGA—The Armenian National Committee of America – Sunland-Tujunga (ANCA-ST) Chapter – condemns the hateful act perpetrated this week against an Armenian-American who hung an Armenian flag outside her home in Tujunga, CA.
Hasmik Chatalyan received a threatening, anonymous note in her mailbox as a result of hanging an Armenian flag outside her home. The ANCA-ST firmly stands with the Chatalyan family and all Armenian-Americans who have experienced senseless acts of hatred for simply honoring their heritage, and commends the Los Angeles Police Department for investigating this incident as a possible hate crime.
“I was devastated to learn that this act of hatred took place in Tujunga. I grew up in the foothills and chose to raise my family in Sunland-Tujunga, along with the many other Armenian-Americans, who have made this neighborhood their home and contribute to the vibrant cultural mosaic that is Los Angeles. Today, I ask my neighbors to call on all community organizations in Sunland-Tujunga to come together in the face of intolerance and work toward mutual respect and acceptance,” said ANCA-ST Co-Chair Christine Jerian
The ANCA-ST invites the community to commemorate the 101st anniversary of the Armenian Genocide on Sunday, April 17, at 1 p.m. when participants will march from the Armenian Apostolic Church of Crescenta Valley at 10154 Mountair Avenue to Bolton Hall Museum where a special program will take place.
Why are you giving this person so much attention. It’s an act of a single crass individual. One look at the hand writing and grammatical errors tells the whole story. Move along folks, nothing to see here.
Let this be a lesson to all Armenians, 6000 years of passive behavior and a “turn the other cheek” approach has only emboldened non Armenians to take aggressive approaches and bully or intimidate and even persecute our communities from the days of Darius to Rome and the Byzantines, culminating in what took place in the Ottomon Empire. The community outreach is a nice gesture but don’t expect much, because amongst those your are reaching out to are the jackals and hyenas that threatened this woman and her children. Buy guns, knives, and weapons and shoot to kill anyone that steps on your property without your permission and decides to threaten your families. It’s as simple as that, don’t light any more candles for vigil against the darkness, instead let your blazing guns and Right to Bear arms light up the night and the faces of the cowards that hide in the deep dark corners of Glendale, Burbank, and Tujunga. This community has had enough.
