STOCHOLM (Today’s Zaman)–The Swedish Parliament is preparing to vote on a motion that describes the planned annihilation between 1915-1923 of Armenians, Assyrians and Chaldeans by the Ottoman Turkish government as Genocide.
The move is worrying officials Ankara, which has also made no secret of its opposition to a similar vote scheduled for March 4 by the Foreign Relations committee of the US House of Representatives.
The news comes a week after a group of Turkish politicians was in Sweden on an official visit last week. The delegation included the chair of Turkey’s Parliamentary Foreign Affairs Committee, and deputies from the Republican People’s party and the Nationalist Movement Party.
According to Today’s Zaman, the group warned Swedish authorities that voting on the motion would damage bilateral relations and torpedo Ankara’s efforts to normalize ties with Yerevan.
What relations with Yerevan? All it took was a simple sentence to establish relations with Yerevan without protocols. The protocols are dead and the Turks are trying to say they are alive. It didn’t take Tukish parliments decision to close the borders. Why does it now take the parliment’s vote to open it now?
Enough is enough.
I agree with Kiazer Souze of every word.
What a calamity, Turkey Armenia relations “damaged” (yawn).
I get very irritated on the “voting on the motion would damage bilateral relations and torpedo Ankara’s efforts to normalize ties with Yerevan”
First of all, why would it damage the relations ? and Second no it woulden’t disturb anything.
What is the difference between recognizing it now or after beeing “friends” ??
I just think this is BULLSHIT from Ankaras side just to make other countries to NOT regognice the Genocide.
” They are using Europes and Americas help against Europe, America and Armenia”
All armenian organisations need absolutely to write support letters to the Swedish Government so they don’t step down on this very important resolution. They should vote freely without threats from a foreign government.
Is there anything organised about that?
no one cares about Turkey or their warnings, it’s too little too late for that…the writing is on the wall
