STOCKHOLM, Sweden–In a last minute decision the Ministry of Culture stopped the Festival 1001 Documentary Film Festival in Istanbul from screening "I Hate Dogs," the Swedish documentary film on the Armenian Genocide, directed by Suzanne Khardalian and PeA Holmquist. The film was selected for 1001 International Documentary Film Festival of Istanbul that is taking place between 29th September and 5th October. It was scheduled to be screened on October 1. "I hate Dogs" is the filmmakers second film on the Armenian Genocide It is another twenty years later since "Back to Ararat," the first documentary ever done on the Armenian Genocide, which won the Golden Bug for best film in 1988. "We are very disappointed" say the film directors in a protest letter to the Festival. ! "We thought that the new Turkey, with its newly found freedom of expression, was ready to discuss even the Armenian Genocide." The Swedish Film Institute has officially protested the decision.
