YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Arkady Ghoukassian met late last week with a delegation of Swiss businessmen including Co-Presidents of the "Frank Muller" firm Vardan Srmakesh and Hrach Gabrielian–Manager of the "Aalpoto" spare-part production plant Aram Avetissian–and bank expert Didier Dequera.
Ghoukassian briefed the guests on the domestic political situation in Karabakh and pointed out that the formation of the new government is in its final stages. He said that the new government has already been rectifying errors in economic management. Ghoukassian said the development of a more realistic taxation program will attract investmen’s and economic development.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation–Srmakesh said that investmen’s in Karabakh are already producing positive results and that there are intentions to increase investmen’s. He pointed out that the goal of the delegation’s visit was to study out the conditions for large investmen’s in Karabakh’s economy–namely in banking–watch-making–jewelry and construction. Srmakesh also suggested studying the possibilities of creating a free economic zone in Karabakh.
Ghoukassian welcomed the Swiss businessmen’s programs–especially that of creating new jobs. He assured the delegation personal and government support in their implementation.
