HOLLYWOOD–System of a Down’s “indefinite break” is over, according to the band’s website, which announced the dates of an upcoming European tour set to begin in June.
“We are excited to announce that System will be playing some dates together in 2011,” said the announcement. “We also want to thank you for your loyalty and support, not only to System Of A Down, but to all of our solo efforts as well.”
System of A Down has been on hiatus since 2006 while its members have pursued various personal projects. Though the news marks an end to the four-year break, it should not be taken as a signal that the band is back together, according to the band. “We have no master plan of sorts,” it said. “We are playing these shows simply because we want to play together again as a band and for you, our amazing fans.”
System of a Down is an Armenian-American rock band which was formed in 1994. Its members are Serj Tankian (lead vocals, keyboard, guitar), Daron Malakian (vocals, guitar), Shavo Odadjian (bass, vocals), and John Dolmayan (drums). Many of the band’s songs deal with themes of injustices and war, such as the Armenian Genocide and the invasion of Iraq.

Finally!!!!! But hoping for a US tour!
I guess the other members finally realized that without Serj Tankian’s voice, on their own, they are just a drummer, a lead guitarist, and a bass player that cannot make the big bucks the way they did with SOAD. Save for Tankian, the rest of the bands solo projects tanked.
This reunion may have been “for the fans” but it was sure as heck will also be for their wallets, they will open up with a European tour then months down the road will announce their official reunification and a new album to rake in the cash, which is absolutely fine, such is the way the delicate dance between the lead vocalist and the rest of the band plays out in Rock.
You can claim that “the band” is the sound and have the lead guitarists toot his own horn about his own talents as an axeman, but in the end, “the voice” is the sound, the rest of the band is just playing instruments based on songs already written. Metallica’s Jason Newsted learned this the hard way, Sabath’s Tony Iommi learned this the hard way, Soundgarden’s Kim Thayil also learned this, after a few years of going nowhere, it seems like Tankian’s bandmates are learning this lesson too, hence, the European tour “for the fans”.
