YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–"Today–human rights protection is our main problem," Gagik Haroutiunian–Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Armenia–said at a "Human Rights and Freedoms Protection Guarantees" workshop in Yerevan on Friday.
"In Armenia–where human potential is the major motive force–the human resource is the most inefficiently used resource. The best example of this is our education system which is nearly nonexistent. Also–we do not have any human rights protection and we have no plans of developing one in the near future," Haroutiunian said.
Haroutiunian went on to say that nearly 47 percent of applications submitted to the Constitutional Court deal with problems which do not fall under the competence of the Court. This tells us that the population is not familiar with the laws of our country.
Haroutiunian said that 12 workshops will be held in Armenia’s regions in the near future–while in October–a "Constitutional Control and Human Rights Protection" seminar will be organized jointly with the Venetian Committee. The seminar will be attended by 15 countries.
