YEREVAN (Azg)–The ill-fated Turkish-Armenian Reconciliation Commission will resume its activities very soon with addition to the roster of its members–a Turkish journalist said during a symposium in the US with participation of Armenian and Turkish scientists–but he refused to disclose the source of his information–but made it clear that it was one of the TARC commissioners.
The Turkish journalist also said that a Turkish commissioner–former foreign affairs minister Ilter Turkmen had stopped his membership in the TARC and another commissioner–Samvel Demirchian–the son of the killed parliament speaker Karen Demirchian–is added to the four Armenian members of TARC.
The journalist also claimed that the commissioners have decided to work under strict confidentiality.
Other four Armenian members of TARC are former foreign minister Alexander Arzoumanian–former ambassador to Syria David Hovanesian–Van Krikorian (US) and Andranik Mihranian (Moscow). Armenian commissioners refused to participate in TARC work after their Turkish counterparts asked unilaterally the International Center for Transitional Justice not to conduct a study on whether the UN 1948 resolution on genocide was applicable on the Armenian genocide of 1915.
Last week–Ross Vartian–the former executive director of the Armenian Assembly of America said that his organization would not be taking part in TARC.
A spokesperson for the Assembly said that TARC is no longer an Assembly issue and all matters must be addressed by TARC officials.
