YEREVAN (Combined Sources)—The Armenian National Congress held a rally Tuesday to mark the March 1, 2008 post-presidential election unrest and its leader, former president Levon Ter-Petrosian, used the gathering to make the odd proclamation that his group’s gatherings would become a forum for self-government.
“From this day forth, the rallies of the Armenian National Congress go from being political actions to a unique forum for social self-government with the full-fledged competency to make decisions and act,” said Ter-Petrosian, who presented a 15-point demand to government, the first of which called for the release of all those imprisoned in connection with the 2008 post-election unrest.
Among the list of prisoners is Mourad Bouloudjian, who has been indicted on charges of espionage and cooperation with Turkey.
Police estimates place the number of demonstrators at 9,000 to 10,000, while Ter-Petrosian-supporter Davit Shahnazarian estimated that between 50,000 to 60,000 participated in the Tuesday rally.
Also present at the protest was chairman of the Heritage Party Raffi Hovannisian and parliament members Larisa Alaverdyan and Anahit Bashkhyan.
The protest began in front of the Madenataran building and proceeded to Miasnikian Square, the site of the most violent clashes between government and opposition forces on March 1, 2008.

Both video of the meeting and the march give an estimate not more than 10000.
Matenadaran – matianneri daran.
We need unity more than anything right now more than ever. Lets not divide among ourselves. I hope our leaders somehow come to an understanding that Armenia first, and then any other personal agenda. Lets support our current leader, in order not weaken our strength.
The Heritage MP’s name is Anahit Bakhchyan. Please correct the spelling.
I worked with her in 2002, when she was director of Yerevan’s School 27. Thanks to her dynamism, her school won the first prize in the competition organised by the “Armenian Forest Coalition” for the student who produced the best hand-made artificial Christmas tree (from recycled material). We successfully used this competition to campaign against the cutting of trees in Armenia for Christmas decorations.
How is this psychotically damaged mind to be allowed to address and appear as a possible leader of the
Armenian nation? Anyone else who shall have damaged the fledgling nation of Haiastan, stolen to fill his own pockets – been run out of the office of president… have the nerve to face the nation from whom he stole
their nation/s assets and fled to France with his Jewish wife and their son – now, to come before Armenians – at all!! Manooshag

P.S. Is he an agent for the Israelis – against Armenians??
If Armenians really want change, then why would anyone seriously support the man who is responsible for the current culture among the government and top businessman? He laid the very foundations of corruption and now he wants back in office.
Apparently Levon Ter Petrosian is confusing the term “self-government” with “treason and treachery”.
Hishadagi Or:
If this Street Forum is Memorial Day for the Victims of 1st March, then I would be there. But if it is an Assembly to Create a Government within the Government, then I would say, Armenia is not so big like Egypt or Libya and it looks to be unpleasant, illegal and dangerous.
If LTB claims being the leader of the HAK Party, then it is legal. But if he claims to be the leader of the nation, then it is too early. Misguiding the nation is dangerous.
At the moment, I see, the right place of LTB is more in the Mashdots Madenataran rather than in the streets, claiming power.
And if LTB will be candidate for the next election, then I will vote for him if he has better program for the nation, and strong to defend expectations of the nation.

A better program for the Armenian nation… such as what? Shutting down the ARF and gifting NK to Azerbaijan?
He should be I jail. Instead him and his gang are making Ultimatum?
That is just ridiculous!!!!!
Levon is trader and all Armenians know that.
How can this people go after him?
In 1990-s He turned Armenia in to Somalia.
I was just talking to my frein and ant in Gyumri armenia onthe phone.
They did not even know about protest.
All I am saying Is that HAK is not and can not be an opposition.
I think LTP took the money In 2008 from Jews and west and could not finish the job.
Imagine if there were not armenians how easy would life for the west.
If Levon wants power change do they at least have any idea or plan to govern the country’s Economy? of course not.
Levon is done he has so much crime on his hands that it is impossible to wash.
