YEREVAN (Noyan Tapan)–During a press conference last week–Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra Art Director Loris Tjeknavorian announced that orchestra’s 1998-1999 concert season would begin on October 2.
Concerts have been scheduled every Friday–while compositions will be performed every Saturday as part of the so-called program of sacred music.
The orchestra is also plans to make two concert tours in this season–with performances scheduled in Iran and Greece.
Tjeknavorian also reported that the orchestra would disband in the near future and auditions to form a new group would be announced.
An organizational and administrative body has also been created–which include officials from the Ministry of Culture and various composers–who will work with current orchestra management and musicians.
Tjeknavorian also announced that the minister of culture–youth affairs and sports issued a decree on August 19 returning the Philharmonic Hall to the orchestra. Yet–the maestro assured those present that all groups would be allowed to take advantage of the hall–except dancing troupes which "damage the organ and the piano: This stage isn’t designed for dancing."
