One hundred and thirteen years ago today, August 14, 1908, the first issue of Asbarez rolled off the presses, ushering in a tradition that until today remains true to the newspaper’s simple, yet profound mission—to become an arena (Asbarez) for the community and to build a bridge between the homeland and the Diaspora.
We thank you for your unwavering confidence in Asbarez. You, our readers, along with our community organizations and institutions, as well as our sponsors, advertisers and supporters are part of the diverse landscape that compels us to do better every day and advance our mission.
Shorty after our last anniversary, which was already marred by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Armenian nation witnessed and lived through a tectonic shift, which has defined our daily coverage since September 27, 2020 when Azerbaijan—aided and abetted by Turkey—launched a large-scale attack resulting in unimaginable human and national losses. As harrowing as it was, Asbarez was there, practically 24 hours a day, putting events and realities into perspective for our readers.
We are proud of our service to our readers and we aim to use our publication as forum to collectively address our national concerns in hope of finding solutions to the challenges facing our homeland and Nation.
The new realities all of us faced due to the pandemic forced Asbarez to make difficult decisions based on public health and economic considerations. However, never during this time did we falter in our commitment to our readers. We have our staff to thank for their dedication.
Our ardent readers will have noticed our new website, which was unveiled earlier this summer. As we continue to improve that platform we look forward to introducing new ways to keep you engaged with Asbarez.
You remain the backbone of our success and we are here to continue to inform and engage you through our online and print publications, our email newsletters and social media platforms, while expanding the arena—Asbarez.
Since our centennial in 2008, it has become an anticipated tradition to mark our anniversary with you by asking for a symbolic birthday gift. We would like to ask you to consider becoming a monthly donor to Asbarez. We thank you for your support and welcome you to join us in marking our anniversary.
