dtp_logoANKARA (Hurriyet)–Turkey’s Constitutional Court will begin hearings regarding the closure case of the pro-Kurdish Democratic Society Party, or DTP, on Tuesday, the Anatolia news agency reported Thursday.

Abdurrahman Yakcinkaya, the top prosecutor of the Supreme Court of Appeals, requested the closure of the party on the grounds that it had become the focus of activities that could divide the state.

Yalcinkaya’s indictment argued that the party had direct links with the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) in breach of the political parties’ law.

A total of 220 DTP officials, including current co-chairpersons, were asked to be banned from politics.

According to law, votes from seven out of the 11 judges are enough to close the party.
