MOSCOW (Today’s Zaman)–Ankara and Moscow will soon sign an agreement paving the way for the establishment of Turkey’s first nuclear power plant, the Turkish energy minister said Tuesday.
Turkey’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Taner Yildiz said Turkey and Russia would sign the agreement in Ankara on Wednesday.
“There are no problems or negative developments regarding the agreement,” Yildiz told a joint press conference with Russian Deputy Premier Igor Ivanovich Sechin at Ankara’s Esenboga Airport.
Sechin traveled to the Turkish capital within the framework of Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s scheduled visit to Turkey May 11-12.
A Turkish-Russian consortium led by Russia’s Atomstroyexport had been the only bidder in a 2008 tender to build the country’s first nuclear power plant. However, Turkey’s state-run electricity wholesaler TETAS canceled the tender in November 2009.
Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan traveled to Moscow in January where he signed a joint declaration with his counterpart to cooperate in establishing a nuclear power plant in Turkey.

Now, Mr. Obama Administration can understand what Mr. Clinton and some U.S. Think Tanks, including myself, were saying in the Fall of 2009 about Russia’s role in Armenia-Turkey Protocols. We were saying that only Russian Federation will gain because of the process of the road map between Armenia and Turkey. Obama Administration ought to understand a very simple thing — Russian troops are standing on the border of Armenia and Turkey; and Turkey is not able to make any decision against Putin Administration. On the other hand, Mr. Putin is skillfully using Armenia’s illegitimate authorities to fight U.S. expansion in the northern part of the Middle East which is the Near East for Russia. The True Armenian powers are unable to utter the simple truth because the Armenian Police (at the head of Mr. Alik Sarksyan) and the Office Prosecution (at the head of Mr. Aghvan Hovsepyan) are getting involved in internal political and social life of Armenian citizens. The keen and subtle political issues are turning disastrous for the Armenian nation because the authorities are illegal and elections have been rigged all the time, since 1998. Last time, Kocharyan-Sarksyan criminal, mafia-type clique rigged the Presidential elections in Armenia in February of 2008, killing 10 citizens on the streets of Yerevan, when the whole population of Armenia was peacefully protesting the rigged elections to defend their civil rights. One hundred thirty-five civil rights activists were sent to prison. After all these crimes, Bush Administration had the wisdom to wait for the voice of True Armenians. After all, Mr. Obama was both deaf and blind to shake hands with Mr. Sarksyan, in April of 2010, on the sidelines of the Obama-Biden World Meeting of Nuclear Powers in Washington, D.C.
Ooops, Mr. Jeshmaridian left out Levon Derbedrosian’s name from his response.
