"We don’t mean Armenia when we speak about increasing relations with our neighbors"
In an interview with Baku’s 525th Newspaper–Vice Chairman of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) of Turkey Saban Disli stated–"Turkey and Azerbaijan will together decide about restoration of the relations with Armenia."
According to Disli–although Turkey seeks to increase relations with neighbors–when it comes to Armenia–there are other considerations: "It’s a different subject. We have to get the agreement of our Azeri brothers to increase relations with Armenia’s. Bilateral relations with Azerbaijan are more important than the "Armenian" topic. We can decide about our relations with Armenia only together with Azerbaijan. When the AKP says that it will improve relations with Turkey’s neighbors–it doesn’t mean than we are talking about Armenia. We mean Iran–Iraq–Russia–Syria–Azerbaijan–Bulgaria–Greece–Georgia and etc. We will carry out our policy on Armenia together with Azerbaijan.
Responding to the question of whether deman’s of Turkish businessmen to open Turkish borders with Armenia–could impact AKP’S foreign policy–Disli said: "Yes–we hear about some deman’s–not only from businessmen–but also from the Armenian lobby in the USA. But we don’t have Armenia in our foreign policy. We need to improve relations with Azerbaijan. We may think about Armenia–after the Nagorno Garabagh conflict is be settled. As I mentioned–we will decide about our policy on Armenia–together with brother Azerbaijan. There may be some businessmen who want to build trade relations with Armenia. But state and trade are different issues. There will not be any relations with Armenia in the foreign policy of Turkey. "
