Turkey’s Davutoglu Defends YouTube Ban

Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu

ANKARA (AP)—Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu has defended Turkey’s move to block access to YouTube, citing national security concerns.

Turkey shut down access to the video-sharing website on Thursday, after an audio recording of a government security meeting was leaked. In the recording, senior officials appeared to be discussing a possible military intervention in Syria.

Davutoglu said the telecommunications authority requested that YouTube take down the audio recording but the company did not remove it.

Turkey last week also suspended access to Twitter, which has been a conduit for links to recordings that suggest government corruption.

“Nothing is more important than Turkey’s security, the well-being of the people or the individual rights of our citizens,” Davutoglu said.

This whole story isn’t receiving the attention it deserves, IMO. As though nothing happened.

I do not think anybody leaked any information without government’s approval. This is just to create an excuse to shut down you tube in TURKEY. P.M. Erdogan has political problems domestically while trying to divert attention by shooting down a Syrian jet and eliminating news sources that can harm him.

This is a shame for US and civilized world, where a genocidal and denialist country deny their own citizens rights and preaching others for liberty and freedom. Turkey’s three AKP amigos know how to fool the world and cover up their own internal mess!
