YEREVAN (Armenpress)–The Turkish government decided to tighten the visa regime for Armenian citizens traveling to Turkey and close its airspace for Armenian planes as a retaliation measure against the US House of Representatives Committee’s passing of an Armenian genocide bill.
The Turkish foreign ministry announced on Wednesday that Armenia’s will now have to apply to Turkish consulates abroad to receive a visitation permission.
Armenpress asked the Armenian Civilian Aviation Department to comment on the Turkish authorities’ decision. The press office of the Department said that the Turkish airspace was open for Armenian jets and there were no obstacles in this respect as of Thursday. "The Turkish flight control services continue to serve Armenian planes," Tamara Sarkisian–the head of the press office said.
But according to some other sources–the decision of closing the airspace will come into force on October 15.
