PARIS (Armenpress)-France’s Foreign Minister Bernard Kouchner told reporters in Paris Friday that he does not see the logic in Ankara’s continued blockade of Armenia.
Kouchner’s came during a press conference following his meeting with his Turkish counterpart Ali Babacan where the two discussed, among other issues, the normalization of relations between Ankara and Yerevan.
According to ANKA news agency, Kouchner told Babacan that he is ready to help solve any political obstacles on the road to normalization
"Turkey’s approach toward the opening of border with Armenia’seems to be positive," Kouchner told reporters. "But it is Turkey that closed the border and I don’t understand the motives behind that move."
Turkey has maintained a complete blockade of Armenia’since it declared independence from the Soviet Union. Official Ankara stipulates that the normalization of relations between the two countries is dependent upon Armenia’s dropping of Genocide Recognition as its foreign policy and a settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh Conflict in favor of Azerbaijan.
Armenia’s Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian recently reiterated Armenia’s longstanding policy for unconditional normalization of Turkish-Armenian, saying that it would benefit the entire region.
