BRUSSELS-Nearly 200 members of Ultra-Nationalist Turkish Grey Wolves attacked and destroyed an Armenian cafe in the neighborhood of Saint-Josse-ten-Noode Tuesday.
The throng of Turkish nationals gathered the night before in the Saint-Jose district of Brussels where they proceeded to the American Embassy and set fire to its flag. Local police did not intervene.
Yelling hostile and insulting slogans against the United States, the group of extremists proceeded to the neighborhood of Saint-Josse-Ten-Noode where they attacked Caf? Jardin de Babylone, destroying and ransacking everything inside. Twenty people, along with the owner of the caf?, Bedig Bedrosian were inside during the assault. They were not injured. Mehmet Koksal, a Belgian journalist of Turkish origin was severely beaten by the extremists for filming the scene. One police officer was also reported injured during the assault on the Caf?.
These attacks occurred amid growing Turkish hostility toward the United States over a vote by the House Committee on Foreign Affairs to adopt the Armenian Genocide Resolution.
