YEREVAN (Armenpress)–A proposal titled–"Recognition of the Armenian Genocide Committed between 1915-1922 in the Ottoman Empire," was presented in the Bulgarian parliament by the ATAKA parliamentary faction.
The proposal–already signed by 12 members of parliament–is now facing opposition from Turkish members of the Bulgarian parliament.
Remzi Osman–Turkish Parliament member representing the mostly Turkish Movement for Rights and Freedoms party–said that such a proposal is not supported by historical facts and is not in the national interest of Bulgaria.
He said that discussing whether or not the Genocide occurred is not an issue for politicians and should be left for historians.
He also said that they will do everything in their power to ensure that the Bulgarian Parliament does not approve this proposal.
